Meet Jay Riordan,
President of Dream Design Builders

Born in Chicago, president Jay Riordan and his family moved to San Diego in 1968. In 1987, after spending six years learning the home remodeling business from the ground up, he started Dream Design Builders—winner of numerous industry awards for the design and build of home remodel projects and a range of national accolades.

Located in San Diego, California, the company specializes in residential remodeling, custom homes, and solar electric systems and approaches every project with a different concept than others in the home remodeling industry; Jay encourages homeowners to design their own reality.

Jay accomplishes this through a unique highly interactive design process. He builds relationships with homeowners and develops a shared vision for their home by asking enough questions, and knowing what works—and what doesn’t work—for every type of home. Most importantly, Jay asks homeowners to guide the pace of their home remodel, custom home, or solar project; he asks them to establish start and stop dates of the construction, to provide firm budgets he’ll always adhere to, and to be willing to take his advice wherever appropriate.

Jay holds the professional designation of Certified Remodeler (CR) contractor through the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). He is also a Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Jay has consistently been active in the professional development aspects of the home remodeling industry here in San Diego; he has served as President and as Chairman of the Board of the San Diego Chapter of NARI, and is an active member of the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce.

He has been married to Brenda since 1990, and calls her “The love of my life.” Brenda is a fourth-generation Californian, and she and Jay have two sons—Patrick and Christopher. Both boys are outstanding students.

Jay and his family have lived and worked in Rancho Bernardo since 1997. Jay generously donates his time as an active member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo, as a member of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), is on the board of directors of the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, and has served as President of the Rancho Bernardo Community Council.

In June of 2010, Mayor Jerry Sanders appointed Jay to the Sustainable Energy Advisory Board for the City of San Diego where he hopes to promote and expand the use of clean, renewable solar energy throughout San Diego County.

Jay enjoys giving back to the community that has already given him so much, and actively seeks out opportunities to be of assistance to those around him.
