The owners of this Oceanside home love to entertain, but the cramped dining room and close-in kitchen hampered their large gatherings.  While they longed for a more open inviting kitchen with a feeling of “earthy elegance” as the ideal setting for their get-togethers, they were concerned that the interior walls defining the kitchen made their vision unrealistic.

We first removed the existing interior walls around the kitchen to create one large space to accommodate both the kitchen and dining areas.  Next, we “exchanged” the two rooms, moving the dining room into the area previously occupied by the kitchen and vice versa. The result? An expanded dining room that offered plenty of flexibility for entertaining groups of all sizes, and which flowed smoothly into a larger, more functional kitchen. Custom cabinetry featuring three species of wood along with natural materials for the countertops and backsplash infused the new kitchen and dining areas with the “earthy elegance” the owners’ desired.  Added storage and new amenities including under-counter wine storage and double sinks make entertaining all the more enjoyable and easier.
