San Diego Kitchen Remodel - Rancho Santa Fe
A jumble of small, disjointed areas, the kitchen of this Rancho Santa Fe home fought for space with a walk-in pantry, bar and breakfast nook. The pantry jutted out into the kitchen, awkwardly dividing the space and interrupting the flow from the kitchen to the adjoining rooms with a heavy load-bearing wall. A kitchen remodel was needed. The owners asked us to design a more spacious and user-friendly kitchen that opened easily to the rest of the house.
Design Solutions:To eliminate the congestion and create one large, workable space, we gutted the kitchen, pantry and bar areas for this kitchen remodel. We retained the opening that had formerly led to the bar area, enabling the kitchen to open freely into the rest of the house. In addition, we reduced the obstructive load-bearing wall into a single post, which we easily incorporated into a new island complete with a cooktop and bar-height seating. With the addition of new cherry cabinetry, we added a functional office nook and increased storage by more than 30% making the need for a pantry obsolete. The result is a warm, sophisticated new kitchen open to the other areas of the home.
